Jeffrey W. Gunn is a partner at Nielsen, Zehe & Antas, P.C. Although he practices in the board field of insurance defense, he specializes in the defense of manufacturers in product liability matters.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Gunn has litigated in behalf of manufacturers of such diverse products as die cutting machines, printing presses, motorcycle helmets, mining vehicles, rock crushing machines, agricultural equipment, overhead conveying systems, continuous casters of liquid steel, elevators, gas heating systems for industrial ovens, commercial truck wheel assembly and braking systems, and grommets for automotive engines, to name a few. Most frequently of late, however, he has litigated cases involving mobile industrial machinery, such as heavy-duty trucks, mobile cranes, tower cranes, road-milling machines, soil stabilizing machines, compact rollers, and the like.

Mr. Gunn has prepared and argued numerous dispositive motions, which he considers a central, defining factor in the resolution of nearly all the cases he litigates. Many such motions have resulted in published decisions. He has participated in many trials that have proceeded to verdict. And he has been lead counsel in numerous appeals filed in many state and federal courts.

In addition to litigation, Mr. Gunn counsels clients in risk management and loss prevention matters, and assists them in creating practices and procedures that have as their goal the reduction of incidents that may lead to lawsuits. He also is involved in the preparation of contracts related to products, such as dealership agreements.

Mr. Gunn also provides opinions on coverage issues regarding general commercial liability and property insurance policies.

Mr. Gunn lives in a suburb not too far from Chicago with his wife, who is also an attorney. They have two children (also attorneys) who live nearby, and two grandchildren (who are too young to spell “attorney”).
